On May 28 is celebrated the National Day for the Reduction of Maternal Mortality, and alluding to this date, the Brazilian Network of Studies on Hypertension in Pregnancy (RBEHG) promoted on May 22, through thePortal of Good Practices of the National Institute for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescent Health Fernandes Figueira (IFF/Fiocruz) o 1st Brazilian Congress on Hypertension in Pregnancy. The initiative aimed to articulate the efforts of researchers and specialists in the discussion about the best guidelines and clinical conducts for the prevention and treatment of hypertension in pregnancy.

Also as part of this celebration, the Good Practices Portal of IFF/Fiocruz held, throughout the month of May, a special series of meetings on Maternal Mortality Prevention in times of the Covid-19 pandemic. The program counted with the participation of specialists and approached the three main causes of maternal death: Prevention of Maternal Mortality by Infection, which took place on April 29th; Prevention of Maternal Mortality by Hypertension, which took place on May 13th, and Prevention of Maternal Mortality by Hemorrhage, which took place on May 27th. Visit the Portal’s website and learn more about the meetings.

“The Portal has done cycles of meetings with specialists on the themes, addressing the three main causes of maternal mortality in Brazil, which are hypertension, hemorrhages, and infections. Now with the Covid-19 pandemic, we have a fourth cause associated with Covid-19 maternal mortality. In this sense, the 1st Brazilian Congress of Hypertension proposed discussions of the best care processes and the necessary structure for the Unified Health System (SUS) to increasingly protect the lives of women during pregnancy, delivery, birth, and puerperium,” said Maria Auxiliadora, physician, researcher, and coordinator of National Actions and Cooperation of IFF/Fiocruz.

“In this perspective, the Portal is very honored to host an event in this protagonism, we feel gratified to integrate different actions aimed at reducing maternal mortality in Brazil and to be recognized by a Brazilian Hypertension Network that understands the credibility and visibility of the Portal of Good Practices,” concluded the researcher Maria Auxiliadora.
